Fuck alcoholism. That is what Meg and I used to say. Meg has been gone almost a year.
I can't just stand by and let others - other sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, nieces, nephews, partners - go through what we've gone through. The unexplainable pain of watching someone you love drink themselves to death. Of knowing their unfair but unescapable shame. The nagging fear of this disease striking others we love.
I will make a difference. Maybe just in me. But hopefully in my family. And how amazing to be able to give some comfort to others struggling through their own version of this.
